Pop Interactive: Lost Art Of Killing

by Crix Lee

The Frame Rate: Space 150 Goes Interactive In "Lost Art Of Killing"
by Crix Lee

Digital advertising agency, Space 150, has again set the bar for all to follow with the release of an interactive music video for King Fantastic's "Lost Art of Killing".  Known for specializing in branding and strategy/product development, Space 150 doesn't mess around when it comes to capturing the public's attention. Last year, it was an interactive billboard for Forever 21 in Times Square… this year, it's the ability to render YOURSELF into a music video where you can not only witness yourself being murdered, but you get to see your own beheading.

Yep! Beheaded!!!!

After the success of the Forever 21 campaign, Space 150 once again turned to director Nicholaus Goossen (Grandma's Boy, Nick Swardson's Pretend Time) to give the video life and the horrifically awesome chance for people around the world to have a little fun.

When approached for the project, Goossen said "My first thought was, "Really? But then I remembered I thought the same thing when they told me their idea for the Forever 21 billboard in Times Square, and that turned out pretty cool. So I trusted that they could pull it off."

Goossen met artist King Fantastic through DJTroublemaker (Rad Omen) and directs many of the RO videos including "Rad Anthem", the infamous music video featuring fast food icons doing very naughty things on a typical night in L.A.

Because he's directed several videos for artists like Rad Omen, Dirt Nasty, Good Charlotte and We The Kings, shooting the video wasn't the real challenge… it was what needed to happen in post to make it successful and really pull off the overall concept.

"We had to shoot slightly different lighting setups for the interactive shots, but that wasn't really that challenging. It's what they do with the footage and how they make it work - that's the tough part. There were certain limitations that we had to adhere to creative guidelines for, but aside from that, it was just the normal pressure of shooting a cool looking music video without a very large budget."

Here's the non-interactive version NSFW:

To put yourself in the video is no trouble at all, merely head over to http://www.lostartofkilling.com, then click 'Make Your Own'. Then all's you gotta do is load up a pic of yourself, wait 3-5 minutes for it to render, then be ready to see yourself sliced, diced and served on a plate!

Here's a quickie of what I looked like before my "death"

Best part? You can share your 'killing' with the world on Twitter and Facebook, just keep in mind the video will be NSFW (for language and well, violence. ha).

One last thing: don't panic if it doesn't look EXACTLY like you, you'll be able to recognize yourself just fine. Just stay within the photo's parameters. I did it with 3 different pics and while I looked a little scary, I knew it was me.

Did the director make a vid? Bet your bippy, kid!

"I did make a video of myself getting beheaded. I hate the way I photograph."

Ha. Welcome to the lost art of killing.

The Frame Rate: Palatial. Crix Approved.
